Documents

Which documents are awarded at the end of the training?

According to the specimen documents provided by the Academy, graduates who complete the Osteopathie Schule Deutschland programme receive the following documents:

01

Diploma

Certifies that the graduate has successfully completed the osteopathy training in accordance with the guidelines of Osteopathie Schule Deutschland, including the subjects listed, and has passed the final examination. The document is signed by the head of OSD, and the diploma is issued in Hamburg.

02

Final examination certificate

Certifies that the graduate has been successfully examined by the examination board in accordance with OSD's curriculum and examination regulations. The certificate shows the results of three examinations: the written examination, the practical/oral examination and the differential diagnosis examination.

03

Transcript (list of subjects)

Shows the subjects completed in each academic year, their dates, attendance status and the results of the annual examinations.

Final examination

Structure of the final examination

In OSD's specimen final examination certificate, the final examination consists of three components:

  1. Written examination

  2. Practical/oral examination

  3. Differential diagnosis examination

For comparison: in Germany

OSD's part-time programme in Germany lasts 4 years and comprises approximately 1,350 contact hours. Under the standard of the association of German osteopathy schools (BAO), the final examination consists of five parts: a thesis, a written examination, a practical-oral examination in the parietal, visceral and cranial fields, a differential diagnosis examination conducted by a physician, and a clinical examination on an unfamiliar patient.

In Germany, OSD graduates may also obtain the title “D.O. OSD” once additional requirements have been met. “D.O. OSD” is OSD's own professional title, not the academic degree of “Doctor of Osteopathy”. These rules apply to the programme in Germany.

Every year

Annual examinations

  • At the end of each academic year, an examination is held covering all the subjects of that year.
  • Students who pass the examination progress to the next year.
  • At the end of year 4, the graduation examination is taken.

Recognition

Recognition of the diploma: what you need to know

  • The right to practise osteopathy professionally is determined in each country by that country's legislation. In some countries osteopathy is a separately regulated healthcare profession, and practising requires registration in a state register. In other countries osteopathy is not regulated as a separate profession, or may be practised only by physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • For this reason, the recognition of any diploma, including the OSD diploma, for professional practice in another country depends on that country's requirements. If you plan to work abroad, find out the requirements of the competent authority of that country in advance.
  • In Azerbaijan, the legal status of osteopathy as a separate specialty has not yet been defined. The work of specialists who have trained in osteopathy abroad is therefore assessed within the framework of their existing medical specialties, the rules for admission to professional practice and the relevant licence. If osteopathy is recognised as a separate specialty in the future, separate requirements may also be set for it.
